This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for May 12, 2008:
The surprises that the day brings!
When I was in fifth grade I wanted a monkey more than anything else in the world.
Instead, my parents gave me an alligator!
It was shipped thru the mail in a box, and living up north where April is still winter, it arrived frozen, belly up. My dad decided to see if it would thaw out, so he put it in a cake pan with some water and set it next to the furnace. By the time I got home from school it was alive and kicking!
He only lived two weeks with us, but now I celebrate that alligator and the spirit of surprise and fun that he brought to our lives every year. hahahhahahaha!

Susan, I love your parents, and I don't even know them! They sound a lot like my parents. SO COOL! I would have been so excited to have had an alligator. Trust me, as I got older, my pet choices got wilder… my poor, poor mother always put up with me though. What a cool blog. Thank you for sharing.
Hugs!
